This
exhibition, by two artists from the Jiangnan region of China
(Shanghai and area), addresses issues of identity in a complex,
global society at the end of the 20th century. Zhou Tiehai offers
a stinging commentary on consumer culture. Geng Jianyi looks
at issues of individual identity and choice, involving unconventional
methods of gathering social evidence.
The
exhibition is supported by the Canada Councils Dissemination
Assistance Program.
This exhibition is a component of Jiangnan: Modern and Contemporary
Art from South of the Yangzi River, a project co-produced by
the Western Front and the Annie Wong Art Foundation. Jiangnan
is a city-wide collaboration of museums, galleries and universities
in Vancouver.
