Owen Kydd is an emerging artist who lives and works in Vancouver. Kydd’s videos and photographs exhibit a quiet and simple elegance, seemingly asking no more from his cameras than the simple act of observing, depicting, and, indeed, picturing what lies before the lens. Despite this relative simplicity, critic Christopher Brayshaw writes that his work is an “ambitious attempt to marry the ancient art of the still picture, whose static images imply an endless plenitude of detail, with the more recent art of cinematography, whose temporality makes it appear more “life like.” Kydd has also collaborated extensively with renowned Vancouver photographer Scott McFarland on many projects, and together they have exhibited at venues such as the Vancouver Art Gallery and Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver. Kydd has had solo exhibitions at independent spaces such as CSA and Anodyne, both Vancouver, and is represented by Monte Clark Gallery, Vancouver and Toronto.
