Image dimensions 20.3 x 25.4 cm
Dick Oulton was a well-known Vancouver commercial photographer who opened his business in the late 1940’s. In addition to formal studio portraiture, his photographic work involved documenting a wide range of subject matter including weddings, interior design, restaurants, nightclubs, wrestling matches, hairdressing championships, promotions and the construction of the hydroelectric facility in Kitimat. He was the official photographer for many local organizations and businesses, producing a unique and intimate portrait of life in Vancouver over a thirty-year period. His remarkable archive reveals the changing photographic styles and materials over this time period. A selection of Dick Oulton’s commercial and personal work, including stereographs, was included in the 1994 PHG exhibition The Just Past of Photography in Vancouver.
