Adam Harrison is amongst a new generation of Vancouver photographers who bring fresh perspectives to the city’s acclaimed traditions with work that examines the nature of perception and visibility. The artist states, “by attempting to represent visibility, each picture becomes a self-reflective meditation on its own making, and it own nature.” In the B&W print “Leaves” these ideas are given strikingly poetic expression in a richly-toned play of atmospheric light. Harrison’s photographs have been included in exhibitions at the Helen Pitt Gallery, Space Gallery, and the Belkin Satellite, and featured in Ripe Magazine and Geist Magazine. In 2005, he produced “365 Sketches”, in which a new photograph was posted every day of the year on his website. In addition to his photographic practice, he is co-editor of Doppelganger Magazine, co-curator of CSA Space, and an active critic. His writing on art has been published by Canadian Art and Terminal City, as well as in various other publications, catalogues and artist monographs.
